Education

We believe education is the foundation of meaningful change—especially when it comes to sustainability.

Our Lunch 'n Learn series is designed to make complex topics accessible, relevant, and actionable for our team. From recycling and carbon emissions to modern slavery, each session is built around real-world insights and practical takeaways that help our people make better decisions—at work and in their personal lives. As we’ve learnt through experience, the key to effective education is keeping it simple, making it relatable, and creating space for curiosity. It’s not just about sharing information—it’s about sparking conversations that lead to lasting impact

Understanding Modern Slavery

As part of our commitment to ethical sourcing and human rights, we hosted a Modern Slavery Lunch & Learn to deepen our understanding of exploitative labour practices and how they intersect with the textile industry. Led by Vanessa Thompson from Go Well Consulting, the session explored the global risks hidden in supply chains, the signs of modern slavery, and the role we all play in identifying and addressing these issues. We wanted our team to walk away informed, empowered, and ready to ask the right questions - it’s about helping people make better choices through the products and brands they buy.

Carbon 101

We hosted our Emissions 101 Lunch 'n Learn to help demystify carbon emissions and empower our team to take meaningful climate action—both personally and professionally. Led by Alix McKenzie from Go Well Consulting, the session broke down the science behind emissions, why they matter, and how everyday choices—from travel to energy use—shape our carbon footprint. We wanted people to walk away with a clearer understanding of the climate challenge, practical tools to reduce their impact, and insight into how Deane is actively working toward a low-carbon future. It was all about sparking awareness, inspiring action, and reinforcing that every footprint counts.

Recycling Right

We kicked off our Lunch ‘n Learn series with Recycling Right facilitated by Waste Expert, Kate Lodge. We wanted to empower our team with up-to-date knowledge on New Zealand’s new recycling standards and to clear up confusion about what can and can’t go in kerbside collections. By breaking down the latest changes, highlighting specialist recycling options, and sharing practical tips, our goal was to give everyone the confidence and tools to recycle correctly—at work and at home.
