Packaging

Packaging with Purpose: We’re proud to align with APCO’s National Packaging Targets, reducing single-use plastics and increasing recycled content across our packaging. From recycled garment labels to ocean-bound courier bags, every detail is designed to minimise impact and support a circular economy—no matter where we operate.

APCO Commitment

Deane Apparel is proud to be part of the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), a not-for-profit that leads Australia’s transition to a circular economy for packaging. APCO works in partnership with industry and government to drive progress towards the National Packaging Targets (NPTs), which include ensuring 100% of packaging is reusable, recyclable or compostable, increasing plastic recovery rates, boosting recycled content, and phasing out problematic single-use plastics.

While New Zealand does not have an equivalent organisation, Deane is committed to meeting the highest possible standards—regardless of local legislation. We actively align with APCO’s goals to reduce environmental impact and accelerate sustainable packaging innovation, even as the 2025 deadline is extended to allow for continued progress.

Sustainable Packaging

We’ve committed to meeting APCO’s National Packaging Targets through a comprehensive overhaul of our packaging standards.

In 2024, we released a Sustainable Packaging Manual that sets clear requirements for our products. Key changes include converting garment labels to 100% recycled polyester, swing tags to recycled paper without film coating, and replacing plastic kimble tags with string loops. We’ve eliminated plastic clips, pins, and shirt supports, and introduced recycled paper alternatives. Single-use polybags have been significantly reduced—down 13% in the last financial year, saving 3,166kg of plastic—and replaced with cardboard wraps or recycled LDPE 4 bags. Additional improvements include acid-free tissue paper, clay-based desiccants, and courier bags made from ocean-recycled plastic.

Better Packaging

We’ve partnered with the Better Packaging Company to supply our courier bags, choosing their Pollastic™ range made from 100% recycled ocean-bound plastic.

These bags are not only certified for sustainability but also help divert plastic waste from waterways and coastlines across Asia-Pacific.

By using Pollastic™, we’re reducing our environmental footprint while supporting circular solutions that align with our commitment to responsible sourcing and packaging.

It’s one more way we’re working towards a cleaner, more sustainable future—without compromising on performance or durability.
