Emissions & Energy

We are on a mission to become carbon positive by 2028. From shifting freight from air to sea, to exploring electric vehicles and solar energy, we’re taking bold steps to reduce emissions and future-proof our operations.

We also work closely with suppliers to uphold high environmental standards across energy, water, and waste—ensuring sustainability is embedded from fibre to finished garment.

What We’re Doing About It

Reducing Emissions

We've set an ambitious goal to become a carbon positive business by 2028. Our Carbon Emissions Reduction Plan outlines clear targets—aligned with the global 1.5°C climate goal—and practical strategies to reduce emissions across freight, energy, travel, and waste.

With freight making up over 90% of our footprint, we’re looking at a shift from air to sea freight, improving inventory forecasting, and investing in low-carbon logistics infrastructure. We’re also exploring electric vehicle upgrades, solar installations, and smarter energy use across our sites. These actions not only cut emissions and operational costs—they build resilience and ensure we’re ready for the regulatory and environmental challenges ahead.

Environmental Policy

We believe that protecting the planet is just as important as protecting people. That’s why we’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint across every stage of our operations—from fibre to finished garment.

We work closely with our suppliers to uphold high environmental standards across energy use, water management, waste reduction, and responsible sourcing. All suppliers are required to sign our Supplier Environmental Policy, confirming their commitment to these standards and agreeing to regular assessments and continuous improvement programmes. This includes monitoring greenhouse gas emissions, minimising water consumption, managing wastewater safely, and avoiding landfill through circular material practices..

Planting Days

We believe sustainability is something you do—not just something you say. That’s why we work with the incredible team at Conservation Volunteers to take part in multiple planting and maintenance days across New Zealand.

Every Deane team member receives a paid day off each year to volunteer, and many choose to spend it restoring native habitats. These hands-on experiences not only support biodiversity and carbon capture—they also strengthen our connection to the land and each other. It’s a meaningful way to give back, grow together, and help shape a greener future..
